The research associate provides general support for the laboratory following established policies and procedures and has awareness of factors that influence test results. They will assist in sample processing, preparation of reagents/media, and routine equipment maintenance. Ensuring proper levels of department supplies, performing accurate record keeping, and providing general support to other company functions will also comprise a portion of this role. The successful candidate will play an integral part in the establishment of a quality system and robust manufacturing process and have the opportunity to become an integral part of a small, quickly growing leader in biomedical research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The research associate will conduct all of the following duties under general and/or direct supervision:
- Logs, labels, and processes specimens and paperwork for testing.
- Prepares and/or aliquots pre-analytical reagents and media.
- Performs laboratory experiments including histology, molecular biology, imaging, cell and animal modeling, and sequencing under supervision and guidance by a senior researcher following appropriate training to support innovative science, including translational applications of neuromodulation technologies to metabolic and inflammatory diseases.
- Performs routine housekeeping and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Orders, unpacks, logs and stores supplies.
- Transcription and data entry.
- Maintains the confidentiality of client information.
- Helps to ensure the laboratory area is neat and clean.
- Uses and wears protective equipment and clothing as appropriate and properly reports all incidents.
- Contributes a collaborative work environment, fosters team building, and maintains cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Supports non-technical duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science (or similar) in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry, Biotechnology, Diploma in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, or recent molecular biology laboratory experience. Candidates with a university degree are preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical or molecular biology laboratory experience.
- PCR, ELISA, histology, neuromodulation, and in vitro and in vivo modeling of metabolic or inflammatory disease-specific experience is a definite asset.
- Computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
- Able to lift light to moderately heavy objects.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time and perform extended periods of eye and hand coordination.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain strict production and quality standards.
- Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and procedures outlined in the Environmental Health & Safety Manual.
Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day
