The Warehouse Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, orderliness, and overall appearance of the warehouse, dock areas, warehouse-adjacent spaces, and common areas. This role focuses primarily on keeping the warehouse clean, organized, and free of debris or hazards while also supporting general facility cleanliness throughout the building.
The Warehouse Porter plays an important role in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and professional work environment for employees, visitors, customers, drivers, and vendors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain the overall cleanliness and daily upkeep of the warehouse, dock areas, warehouse aisles, common areas, and surrounding property.
· Sweep, mop, scrub, and clean warehouse floors, dock areas, walkways, entrances, and other high-traffic areas.
· Remove trash, cardboard, shrink wrap, broken pallets, packaging materials, and other debris from warehouse and common areas.
· Keep warehouse walkways, exits, dock doors, work areas, and shared spaces clean, clear, and free of hazards.
· Clean and maintain restrooms, breakrooms, hallways, lobbies, stairwells, and other common areas as needed.
· Assist with maintaining curb appeal and cleanliness around exterior doors, walkways, dock areas, parking areas, and building entrances.
· Promptly clean or report spills, debris, damaged materials, or other safety concerns.
· Perform snow removal and salting duties as needed to ensure safe access to the building, docks, walkways, and entrances.
· Assist with light maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs, unclogging sinks, and completing minor facility service requests.
· Conduct routine inspections of warehouse and facility areas to identify cleaning needs, safety concerns, or maintenance issues.
· Use cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment safely and properly, including vacuums, mops, brooms, floor scrubbers, and related equipment.
· Work professionally, respectfully, and cooperatively with warehouse staff, office staff, drivers, visitors, and building occupants.
· Promptly report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, equipment issues, or facility damage to the Warehouse Manager or appropriate supervisor.
· Follow all company policies, safety procedures, warehouse rules, and PPE requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Previous janitorial, custodial, warehouse, porter, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
· Ability to work independently and take initiative.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe facility.
· Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
· Comfortable working in a warehouse environment around docks, equipment, pallets, freight, and warehouse activity.
· Comfortable using basic cleaning tools and equipment, including brooms, mops, vacuums, floor scrubbers, and floor buffers.
· Ability to follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
· Must wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes when working in the warehouse area.
· Must follow all warehouse safety rules, posted signs, and pedestrian walkway requirements.
· Must remain aware of forklifts, pallet jacks, dock activity, trucks, and other warehouse equipment.
· Must use appropriate PPE as required by the company.
· Must not operate warehouse equipment unless properly trained and authorized.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, climb, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
· Regularly required to use hands, arms, and cleaning equipment to perform assigned duties.
· Must be able to work in warehouse, dock, office, common area, and exterior environments.
· May be exposed to dust, dirt, cleaning chemicals, temperature changes, warehouse noise, and active warehouse operations.
