STEAM Discovery Academy is looking for energetic and dependable Part-Time STEM Educators and Club Mentors to lead hands-on STEM experiences for elementary and middle school students.
Our educators don't spend the afternoon lecturing. They help students build robots, fly drones, tackle engineering challenges, conduct experiments, design prototypes, and solve problems.
This is an excellent opportunity for education majors, STEM majors, aspiring teachers, engineers, makers, robotics enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys working with kids and technology.
You don't need to be an expert in every area of STEM. We provide curriculum, materials, equipment, and training. We're looking for people who are curious, willing to learn, dependable, and excited about helping students discover what they can create.
Opportunities Include
Depending on your interests and experience, you may have the opportunity to:
- Lead hands-on STEM and engineering challenges
- Mentor a student robotics club or team
- Teach students how to build, program, and operate robots
- Lead drone clubs where students learn flight, technology, and engineering concepts
- Coach students through robotics and engineering competitions
- Facilitate science experiments and maker projects
- Help students safely use STEM tools, equipment, and technology
- Encourage students to design, test, fail, improve, and try again
- Help students develop teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
What We're Looking For
Successful STEM educators don't need to know every answer. They need to be willing to help students figure out the answer.
Ideal candidates are:
- Excited about STEM, robotics, drones, engineering, science, or technology
- Comfortable working with elementary and/or middle school students
- Positive, energetic, patient, and dependable
- Comfortable learning new equipment and technology
- Able to manage small groups of students during hands-on activities
- Willing to encourage experimentation and productive failure
- Able to communicate clearly with students, families, and fellow educators
- Reliable and available during scheduled programs
Experience
Previous experience in any of the following is helpful:
- Teaching or education
- Summer camps or after-school programs
- Tutoring or mentoring
- Robotics or robotics competitions
- Drones or RC aircraft
- Coding or programming
- Engineering or maker activities
- LEGO-based engineering
- Science laboratories or demonstrations
- Youth sports, coaching, Scouts, or other youth programs
Previous robotics or drone experience is a plus, but not required. Training is available for the right candidate.
- Experience with classroom management, behavior management, or youth development is preferred.
- Knowledge of child-safety procedures and basic First Aid/CPR certification is also a plus.

Pay: $16.50 - $21.00 per hour
