**Job Summary
**
We are seeking a reliable and customer-focused Courier / Mailroom Associate to support campus mail and material management operations. This role is responsible for receiving, sorting, processing, and delivering mail, packages, and other materials across multiple campus locations. The ideal candidate has prior mailroom experience (warehouse picking experience alone will not qualify), excellent customer service skills, and a clean driving record.
**Key Responsibilities
**
- Receive, sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and freight.
- Pick up and deliver mail and materials to various campus locations using university vehicles.
- Operate computerized shipping systems for UPS, FedEx, and other carriers.
- Process outgoing shipments using postage meters, shipping software, and tracking systems.
- Document deliveries and maintain accurate records using handheld electronic devices.
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Inspect shipments for damage and report discrepancies.
- Move, organize, and relocate materials using pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
- Assist with inventory management and storage organization.
- Process customer transactions, including payments by check and credit card, at the customer service counter.
- Support retail surplus sales operations as needed.
- Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
**Required Qualifications
**
- Previous mailroom experience is required. Candidates with only warehouse picking experience will not be considered.
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Experience using shipping software (UPS, FedEx, USPS) is preferred.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and strong organizational skills.
**Physical Requirements
**
- Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and lifting throughout the workday.
- Ability to safely operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment when required.
**Work Environment
**
- Onsite mailroom and campus delivery environment.
- Driving between multiple campus locations is required.
- Uniform shirts are provided; employees must wear jeans without holes and closed-toe shoes.
- Some Saturday work may be required based on operational needs.
**Additional Requirements
**
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Candidates must be eligible to operate university vehicles.
- Successful completion of required background screening prior to employment.
