A well-established custom millwork company with over 45 years of experience is seeking an experienced Millwork Estimator to join our team. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality craftsmanship and precision in every project, from concept to completion.
Job Summary:
The Engineer is responsible for producing accurate shop drawings, submittals, CNC files, and technical documentation to support millwork and casework projects. This role ensures that all drawings and files comply with project specifications, company standards, and applicable building codes. The Engineer works closely with the Engineering Manager, Project Managers, and Production team to deliver high-quality, constructible, and cost-effective solutions on schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate shop drawings, submittals, and CNC files for architectural millwork and casework projects.
- Translate architectural and design intent into detailed, constructible technical documentation.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify requirements, discrepancies, and areas needing clarification.
- Revise drawings and files promptly to reflect customer changes, field conditions, or coordination issues.
- Ensure all engineering outputs comply with AWI standards, ADA requirements, fire codes, and local building codes.
- Apply knowledge of woodworking joinery, veneers, laminates, solid surfaces, and hardware integration in drawings.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to align drawing deliverables with project milestones, schedules, and deadlines.
- Collaborate with Production and Shop Foremen to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and constructability of designs.
- Support field teams during installation with technical clarifications and updated details when needed.
- Perform detailed take-offs of materials, hardware, and fabrication components when requested.
- Maintain organized digital filing of drawings, CNC programs, and revision histories per company standards.
- Develop and maintain CAD/Revit/Microvellum/Cabinet Vision block libraries for standard parts, assemblies, and hardware.
- Perform quality control checks on drawings and files to minimize errors and rework.
- Assist in CNC programming, nesting, and machine setup documentation as directed by the Engineering Manager.
- Participate in value-engineering exercises by proposing cost-effective alternatives that meet design and quality standards.
- Provide technical input to Estimating and Sales teams during bidding and pre-construction phases.
- Respond promptly to RFIs (Requests for Information) from contractors, architects, or internal staff.
- Ensure document version control and maintain accurate records of approved submittals.
- Assist with training or mentoring new drafters by sharing best practices and technical knowledge when requested.
- Stay current with drafting technology, CNC software updates, and industry trends to continuously improve efficiency.
- Software Proficiency:
- Proficiency in BRICS CAD, Microvellum, Cabinet Vision or other drafting software.
- Experience with CNC programming software such as AlphaCAM or MasterCAM.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, BlueBeam, Project Management Software).
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong drafting skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and constructability.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Knowledge of woodworking, cabinetry, and commercial millwork construction methods.
- Familiarity with hardware, veneers, laminates, fire-rated materials, and solid surfaces.
- Understanding of AWI/QCP standards, ADA accessibility requirements, and local codes.
- Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning abilities.
- Effective communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple drafting assignments and meet project deadlines.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or equivalent technical training in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years of drafting experience in architectural millwork, woodworking, or a related construction field.
- Experience with CNC integration and automated manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Prior experience working with architects, general contractors, or fabrication teams preferred.
- Experience in commercial construction or manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
- Experience working with general contractors, architects, and production teams.
Software Proficiency
- BRICS CAD, Microvellum, Revit, or Cabinet Vision required.
- CNC programming knowledge (e.g., AlphaCAM, MasterCAM, or WoodWOP) preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Doc (Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam).
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to navigate production areas and job sites as needed.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- May require wearing appropriate PPE during site visits or shop floor inspections.
