Overview
MedSurg RNs provide bedside care for a variety of patients and execute individualized patient assessments to create an individualized plan of care. MedSurg RNs prepare equipment and assist physicians during examination and treatment of patients. MedSurg RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- MedSurg RNs prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications
- Initiate alternative action when adverse symptomology is displayed
- Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs when necessary
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient Medsurg experience and 2 years of RN experience
- Active Oklahoma RN license or multistate compact RN license (eNLC).
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- Current ACLS certification (American Heart Association).
- Stepdown/PCU: Stepdown/PCU experience required.
- Patient acuity/skills exposure (post-operative floor): Experience caring for patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT/NGT/DHT (as applicable per unit needs).
- Knowledge of professional nursing practices, procedures, and standards of care.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate patient care effectively.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a healthcare team.
- Ability to meet the cultural and language needs of diverse patient populations.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- ENT experience and/or Transplant experience (preferred)
- BSN or higher from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
