Birch Community Services (BCS) is looking for a Development Manager to lead and grow our fundraising and development efforts. This is a hands-on opportunity for a relationship-driven nonprofit professional who enjoys both the big picture and the details that make a strong development program successful.
You'll work closely with our Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, consultants, donors, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen donor relationships, expand fundraising opportunities, manage grants, support capital campaigns, and help tell the story of the impact BCS is making in our community.

What You'll DoLead Development & Fundraising
- Own the annual fundraising strategy, campaigns, donor appeals, and fundraising events.
- Cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community partners.
- Support major donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising conversations.
- Lead capital campaign initiatives in partnership with the Executive Director, Board, and consultants.
- Identify new opportunities to grow donor engagement and long-term giving.
Grants & Donor Management
- Develop grant proposals, applications, and stewardship reports in partnership with our Grant Writer Consultant.
- Research and identify new funding opportunities.
- Track grant outcomes and communicate organizational impact.
- Maintain accurate donor information in DonorPerfect.
- Supervise the part-time Donor Specialist.
- Generate donor, fundraising, and impact reports and use data to inform development strategy.
Marketing & Community Engagement
- Partner with the Marketing & Communications Specialist on donor communications, newsletters, social media, and outreach.
- Help tell compelling stories that demonstrate the impact of BCS.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives involving donors, volunteers, participants, and community partners.
- Represent BCS at donor meetings, networking events, community activities, and partner meetings.
Executive & Leadership Support
- Partner with the Executive Director on strategic priorities and development initiatives.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and materials for leadership and Board meetings.
- Coordinate follow-up and communication with key stakeholders.
- Manage sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, marketing, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of nonprofit development experience.
- Experience with fundraising, donor relations, grants, and stewardship.
- Experience developing grant proposals and donor communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience with Google Workspace and donor management systems.
- Ability to learn and navigate Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
- Strong judgment, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality.
Preferred:
- Capital campaign experience.
- Major gifts or advancement experience.
- Experience working with nonprofit Boards.
- CFRE certification or interest in professional fundraising development.

What You Can Expect
- $70,000 annual salary
- Full-time, in-person position in Portland, Oregon

A Few Things to Know
This is an in-person role and will occasionally require attendance at donor meetings, networking events, fundraising activities, and community events outside of regular business hours.
The position may also occasionally work in our warehouse environment and assist with event setup. Employees must be able to lift and transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
