About the Role
Core Diagnostic Laboratories is hiring a motivated, detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist for our billing team in Birmingham, AL. You’ll keep our billing accurate and moving — correcting account information across our lab and billing systems, working claims and insurance denials, posting payments, and verifying patient balances — while handling a steady flow of calls and emails with patients, providers, insurers, and clients.
It’s detail-heavy work that often means juggling several systems at once and handling balance and coverage questions that can get tense, so it suits someone organized and accurate who stays professional and personable under pressure, follows through until issues are resolved, and works well with little oversight.
Responsibilities
- Correct and update information across the laboratory and billing information systems
- Contact clients and patients to obtain the information needed to submit claims
- Manage incoming and outgoing calls and emails
- Address patient and customer needs, providing solutions and follow-up to ensure resolution
- Review and verify patient balances
- Review and update accounts based on insurance denials
- Process and post payments for services performed
- Work backend claim rejections and follow up
- Maintain records of patient and customer interactions, activities, and tasks
- Sort and process incoming mail
- Follow data integrity and security protocols
- Perform additional assigned tasks as needed
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel (pivot tables and formulas a plus)
- Ability to navigate multiple computer systems at once
- Exceptional customer service, staying professional and personable with patients, providers, insurers, and clients
- Strong organization and the ability to work accurately with minimal oversight
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Works and communicates well within a team

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical billing: 2 years (Required)
- Medical customer service: 2 years (Required)
