Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, including manual transmission trucks, along over-the-road (OTR) routes to deliver freight across multiple states.
- Manage refrigerated trailers when required, ensuring proper temperature control for sensitive cargo.
- Use GPS navigation systems to follow optimized routes and ensure timely deliveries while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight with manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit and delivery.
- Handle hazardous materials (Hazmat) and dangerous goods according to hazardous materials regulations, including proper documentation and safety procedures.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking for load security, tire condition, brakes, lights, and fluid levels.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route adjustments, delivery schedules, or any issues encountered during transit.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo manifests, inspection reports, and delivery documentation in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Ensure all deliveries are completed accurately while providing excellent customer service at each stop.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on over-the-road (OTR) routes involving dry van freight.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed configurations, tanker operations or automobile transportation is a plus.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), preferably with endorsements such as Hazmat or Tanker certification.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Experience in truck loading and unloading procedures, including freight handling and securing cargo safely in compliance with logistics standards.
- Skilled in route driving using GPS navigation systems for efficient delivery planning.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently while adhering to safety protocols.
- Prior delivery driver experience emphasizing safety, punctuality, manual handling skills, and customer interaction is highly valued.
