C.R. Jackson is hiring a Milling Machine Operator / Trainee to support our milling operations in Darlington, SC. In this role, you will help remove existing asphalt pavement in preparation for resurfacing and roadway improvements. - Operate or assist in operating a cold planer (milling machine)
- Learn milling equipment operation from experienced team members
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Monitor milling depth, grade, and material removal to meet project specifications
- Work closely with ground crews, truck drivers, and supervisors to keep operations running efficiently
- Help keep equipment and work areas clean and organized
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Valid driver's license required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous heavy equipment, milling, paving, or construction experience preferred, but not required
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
Willingness to travel throughout South Carolina as needed- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends as project schedules require
- Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb throughout the workday
- Ability to safely climb on and off heavy equipment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise
- Ability to work on uneven terrain and active construction sites
- Ability to maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and traffic for safe operations
