The Summer/Fall Seasonal Naturalist supports the efforts of Rocky River Nature Center staff with educational programs, summer camps, animal care, gardening, hosting, office work, cleaning, and other duties as assigned. This is a short-term, entry-level opportunity designed to help candidates develop professional skills in the field of Outdoor Experiences.
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required. Weekend availability is essential.
- Provides outdoor recreation and educational programs that serve to enhance Cleveland Metroparks conservation, education and outdoor recreation mission and to promote environmental education and stewardship.
- Assists with outdoor recreation and environmental education programs within the park district and at off-site locations.
- Participates in special events or projects as assigned.
- Demonstrated organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management.
- Drives Park District vehicles to transport equipment as required.
- Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program materials.
- Performs light maintenance functions.
Requirements:
- Must be at least a high school junior. Must have a strong interest in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural resources, history, or related discipline.
- Must have a valid driver's license. Must obtain and maintain a current first aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education or recreation.
- Basic knowledge of natural and/or cultural history of the region.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
- Background check is required.
Work Schedule:
Multiple positions are available with varying work schedules:
- Up to 40 hours a week for six months from June/July through November/December. Workdays may vary and will include holidays, weekends, and occasional evening shifts.
- Up to 16 hours a week on Saturdays and Sundays for six months from June/July through November/December with the possibility of additional hours.
