About Merchants Mortgage & Trust Corporation
MMTC originates non-owner occupied business purpose loans (no consumer loans) specializing in fix-and-flip, multi-family, DSCR, and ground-up construction financing. We are a growing, process-driven team that takes pride in operational excellence and delivering a high standard of service to our borrowers and lending partners. We offer our team members a structured environment, multiple career pathways, and the opportunity to develop deep expertise in commercial real estate lending.

Role Purpose
MTMC is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Payoff Associate to join our Payoff Department. This is an entry-level position — no prior mortgage experience required. We will provide full training on our processes, systems, and loan portfolio.
The Payoff Associate serves as a key point of contact for title agents, escrow officers, attorneys, and borrowers requesting loan payoff figures. The role is primarily email-driven, with a meaningful volume of phone interaction as well. If you are organized, communicative, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, this is an excellent opportunity to build a career in commercial real estate lending.
Core Responsibilities
- Handle a high volume of loan payoff requests received via phone and email from title agents, escrow officers, attorneys, and borrowers — efficiently, accurately, and within required turnaround times
- Generate and transmit payoff demand statements based on loan terms, per diem interest accrual, and outstanding fees or assessments
- Maintain paid-in-full (PIF) records and logs; coordinate timely file handoffs to the Release Department upon loan payoff
- Search internal data sources — including server files and the loan servicing database — to verify and confirm loan data prior to issuing payoff figures
- Provide loan servicing support as directed, including data entry in the loan servicing database
- Collaborate with internal departments including Accounting, Collections, and the Release Department as needed to support clean loan closures
