The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department in a fast-paced, full-service, unionized hotel. This position oversees recruitment, employee and labor relations, payroll, benefits administration, leave management, compliance, training, and performance management while ensuring adherence to Hilton standards, company policies, and all applicable federal, state, local, and collective bargaining agreement requirements.
The Human Resources Manager serves as a trusted business partner to hotel leadership by fostering a positive workplace culture, supporting operational excellence, and driving employee engagement and retention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Partner with the General Manager and department leaders to develop and execute the hotel's human resources and talent strategy.
- Support organizational goals through workforce planning, employee engagement, succession planning, and retention initiatives.
- Provide guidance and coaching to managers on employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, and leadership development. Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for union and non-union positions, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation.
- Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and ensure timely recruitment of qualified candidates.
- Coordinate pre-employment screenings, background checks, and new hire documentation.
- Serve as the primary Human Resources contact for employee relations matters.
- Administer and interpret collective bargaining agreements in partnership with hotel leadership.
- Maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and delegates.
- Conduct investigations involving employee complaints, harassment allegations, policy violations, and workplace concerns.
- Coordinate disciplinary meetings, grievance meetings, corrective actions, suspensions, and terminations while ensuring compliance with company policies and labor agreements.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation for all employee relations matters.
- Process and review weekly payroll for accuracy and compliance.
- Administer employee benefits, leave programs, and open enrollment.
- Manage FMLA, ADA accommodations, paid leave programs, and other applicable leave policies.
- Coordinate workers' compensation and unemployment claims.
- Develop and facilitate new hire orientation and required compliance training.
- Coordinate leadership development and employee learning initiatives.
- Monitor completion of required Hilton and company training programs.
- Promote employee recognition, engagement, and career development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, Hilton standards, and company policies.
- Maintain personnel files, I-9 documentation, HRIS records, and required labor law postings.
- Monitor regulatory changes and recommend policy updates as needed.
- Support hotel audits and ensure HR documentation is maintained accurately.
- Guide department leaders through performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action processes.
- Assist in developing performance improvement plans and succession planning initiatives.
- Support initiatives that promote accountability and high employee performance.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR reports.
- Prepare labor reports and HR metrics for hotel leadership.
- Assist with budgeting related to labor, benefits, and staffing.
- Coordinate employee events, recognition programs, wellness initiatives, and community involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a full-service hotel.
- Previous experience in a unionized hospitality environment strongly preferred.
- Experience administering payroll and employee benefits.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing employee relations issues.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and labor relations practices.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
- Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to walk throughout the hotel and access all operational departments.
- Ability to respond to employee needs in various hotel locations, including guest-facing and back-of-house areas.
