POSITION: Ophthalmic Assistant
REPORTS TO: Clinical Manager
POSITION PURPOSE:
Deliver patient care in accordance with standards set forth by Clarus Eye Center. Prepare patients for eye examinations by physicians. Directly assist physicians in performance of clinical tasks
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of one-year experience in an ophthalmic practice.

One-year full time experience as an ophthalmic assistant

High School Diploma
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Strong technical proficiency and skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for patient work-ups. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- History taking
-
Refractometry
-
Tonometry
-
Contact lens verification/ over-refraction
-
Intermediate diagnostic tests
- Responsible for scribing physician’s examination data. This includes but is not limited to:
- Intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy and terminology

Basic knowledge of correct coding criteria

Intermediate knowledge of ophthalmic services and procedures
- Properly triage acute conditions in person or via phone conversation

Assist physicians with minor procedures

Assist physicians with advanced diagnostic procedures

Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-
Requires sitting for long periods of time. Must be able to safely assist patients in wheelchairs and walkers.
