Position: Installation and Repair Technician
General Summary:
Our Installation and Repair Technician performs service, maintenance, repair, and installation of all our residential service offerings. Duties will include installing and maintaining all types of telecommunications services (including telephone, data, and video), facilities (including fiber), and related equipment. Performs all modifications, moves, adds, changes, and installation of services for all residential customers. Responsible for preventative maintenance of equipment, and provide sales referrals, site surveys and customer relationship management.
Essential Job Functions
- Install, maintain and remove outside plant facilities which include copper aerial and buried cable, fiber optics, DSL, video equipment and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE).
- Coordinate with other departments on service installations and changes to update billing and central office records.
- Maintains and repairs existing equipment by using test sets to locate line trouble.
- Determines necessary repairs that may include repairing wiring, station protectors, grounding connections, running new wires, and replacing jacks, or other outside plant equipment as necessary.
- Share on-call responsibilities with the department and work overtime as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Basic Ethernet.
- Knowledge of Home Networking and Wireless.
- Skill in operating service equipment including various hand tools and testing equipment.
- Knowledge of basic electronics ac/dc power systems and electronics testing.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions both written and verbal.
- Ability to adhere to national industry and company standards for all installations.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.
- Ability to effectively function as a team player.
Education and Experience Must have a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record and be able to pass both a background check and Drug Screen.
- High School diploma or GED; college experience preferred.
- Must be computer literate with experience with Microsoft Operating Systems.
- Strong written and verbal skills. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
