The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading and managing environmental compliance and sustainability programs at the client manufacturing sites. This role oversees environmental management systems, ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and drives continuous improvement in environmental performance.
The Environmental Manager will lead a team of engineers and specialists, support business operations through regulatory expertise and product stewardship, and serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.
Leadership & Environmental Oversight
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to environmental teams across multiple sites.
- Establish goals, drive accountability, and support employee development and performance management.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental policies, procedures, and systems.
- Ensure environmental asset integrity and compliance with all applicable regulations and internal standards.
Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and certifications.
- Oversee permitting activities including applications, renewals, reporting, and inspections.
- Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, audits, and enforcement actions.
- Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel on environmental matters.
Environmental Systems & Performance
- Manage environmental programs including air, wastewater, and waste systems.
- Track, analyze, and communicate environmental performance metrics.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure proper reporting and corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver environmental training programs to ensure workforce compliance.
Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement Support
- Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to improve environmental performance.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across manufacturing operations.
- Support turnaround planning and execution related to environmental requirements.
- Develop and support capital projects aligned with long-term environmental strategies.
Business & Product Stewardship Support
- Provide guidance on transportation safety and emergency response programs.
- Support product stewardship initiatives and regulatory compliance related to product handling and transport.
- Represent the client in industry groups, community engagement efforts, and advisory panels.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing or refining environment
- 8+ years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and regulatory management
- 3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT, and applicable state agencies)
- Experience developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
- Working knowledge of industrial hygiene, process safety management, and environmental compliance practices
- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations to manufacturing operations
- Experience managing multi-site environmental programs preferred
