Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Director of Operations to lead the launch and day-to-day operations of our new Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) specializing in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Mental Health services in the Kansas City area. As a startup organization, this role requires a strategic leader who is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to build operational infrastructure from the ground up.
The Director of Operations will play a critical role in establishing our facility, managing vendor relationships, overseeing building operations, recruiting and onboarding key staff, implementing operational systems and procedures, and ensuring the successful launch and ongoing performance of the program. This position requires an experienced operator who thrives in startup environments, can balance strategic planning with hands-on execution, and is passionate about building high-quality behavioral health services.
Duties
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the startup, launch, and ongoing management of a PHP/IOP Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health treatment program.
- Lead all facility startup activities, including building readiness, furniture and equipment procurement, utility setup, technology implementation, security, and overall operational preparedness.
- Oversee building operations and facilities management, ensuring a safe, compliant, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
- Establish and manage relationships with vendors, contractors, service providers, and external partners to support facility operations and organizational needs.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and develop key operational and clinical support staff in collaboration with executive leadership.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, workflows, and standard operating practices that support regulatory compliance and organizational excellence.
- Provide day-to-day leadership of administrative and operational functions, ensuring effective coordination across clinical, administrative, and support teams.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless communication and operational efficiency across departments.
- Manage program implementation timelines, monitor project milestones, and ensure successful execution of startup initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Oversee budgeting, purchasing, resource allocation, and operational expenses to support sustainable growth.
- Drive data-informed decision making through analysis of operational metrics, performance indicators, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, streamline workflows, and enhance client and staff experiences.
- Support organizational growth initiatives, accreditation readiness, licensing activities, and ongoing compliance with applicable federal, state, and payer requirements.
- Serve as an in-person operational leader, providing visible leadership, problem-solving, and hands-on support as the organization grows.
Requirements
- Experience in Behavioral Healthcare, Substance-Use and Mental Health programming.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible operations leadership experience, preferably within behavioral health, healthcare, or startup healthcare environments.
- Experience launching new healthcare programs, facilities, or service lines is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in facilities management, vendor management, and operational startup activities.
- Proven success recruiting, hiring, developing, and managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong program and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience developing operational policies, procedures, and scalable systems.
- Knowledge of behavioral health, Substance Use Disorder (SUD), PHP, and/or IOP operations is highly preferred.
- Strong financial management experience, including budgeting, purchasing, and resource planning.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to solve problems independently, adapt quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and exceptional client care.
- Must be comfortable working on-site and serving as the primary operational leader during program startup and growth.
- Flexibility with managing operational needs and tasks during business hours and sometimes afterhours.

Pay: $77,378.64 - $93,187.18 per year
