Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School is seeking an additional Assistant Principal who is passionate about Catholic education and committed to helping students, teachers, and families thrive. The Assistant Principal serves as a collaborative leader who supports the school's Catholic mission while fostering academic excellence, student growth, and a positive school culture. This position will work with the current Assistant Principal to form a collaborative team.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator, an instructional leader, and a compassionate problem solver who believes that high expectations, strong relationships, and faith are the foundation of a successful school community.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Principal will:

Support and uphold the mission and Catholic identity of the school.

Foster a safe, welcoming, and faith-filled learning environment for all students.

Build positive relationships with students, families, faculty, and parish members.

Collaborate with the principal to implement the school's vision and strategic goals.

Support teachers through classroom observations, coaching, mentoring, and professional development.

Promote high-quality instruction and student achievement across all grade levels.

Lead student discipline with consistency, fairness, compassion, and a restorative approach that encourages growth and accountability.

Help coordinate school safety procedures and emergency preparedness.

Assist with student supervision, daily operations, scheduling, and school events.

Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, behavior, and school initiatives.

Analyze academic and behavioral data to support continuous school improvement.

Encourage a culture of service, respect, integrity, and excellence rooted in the Gospel.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess:
Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church (i.e., able
to receive the Sacraments and, if married, in a valid Church marriage.
Be deeply committed to the development of the faith life of the
teachers and students and dedicated to the ministry of Catholic
education.
Have a minimum of five years of teaching experience, preferably in a
Catholic school. Such experience should be sufficiently broad as to
provide an understanding of the Prek-8 or 9-12 structure and the
potential to function as an educational leader in either setting.
Have a Master’s Degree in School Administration from an accredited
university approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia or a Master’s
Degree in another academic area and completion of the following
graduate courses, preferably from an accredited college or university
offering Catholic School Administration:

Evaluation of Instruction and Curriculum

Special Education

School Finance and
-
Educational Leadership

If licensed by the Commonwealth of VA, another state, or the Virginia
Catholic Education Association (VCEA), successfully complete the
School Leadership Licensure Assessment (SLLA). The courses and
assessment must be completed within three years of being hired.
Hold appropriate Virginia Administration and Supervision
Certification or be eligible to obtain this certification within three
years of hire.
Hold Basic Catechist level Diocesan Religion Certification or be
eligible to obtain this certification within three years of hire.
