About the Property
Pismo Beach Club is a 20-room boutique hotel steps from the beach, operated by Maza
Hospitality. We run a small, tight team where everyone touches the guest experience directly.
There is no layer of corporate insulation here — the person in this role has real ownership over
how the property looks, feels, and performs every day.
Position Summary
The Hotel Supervisor is the on-property leader responsible for room quality, housekeeping team
performance, basic property upkeep, on-site event support, and day-to-day guest issue resolution.
This is a hands-on, walking role: you will inspect rooms, fix small items yourself, coach room
attendants in real time, help book and execute events on property, and be the first point of contact
when a guest needs something made right.
This is not a clipboard-only position. On busy turn days, short-staffed days, or slower days when
the board is light, the supervisor is expected to pick up a cart and clean rooms alongside the team.
The right candidate sees that as part of the job, not beneath it.
We are hiring this position part-time to start. A supervisor who demonstrates consistent standards,
sound judgment with guests, and the ability to lead a team will have the opportunity to move into a
full-time role, including supporting our short-term rental properties in Santa Barbara as the portfolio
grows.
Key Responsibilities
Room Quality and Inspection
- Inspect guest rooms after cleaning to verify they meet Pismo Beach Club standards for
cleanliness, setup, amenities, and presentation before release to arriving guests
- Walk the full property daily — guest rooms, corridors, common areas, and exterior —
identifying maintenance issues, wear, and safety concerns
- Document and report deficiencies, damage, and repair needs, and follow through to confirm
resolution
- Verify room readiness against the daily arrivals list and communicate any delays proactively
Housekeeping Team Leadership
- Supervise and support the housekeeping team, including room attendants and turnover staff
- Assign daily boards and prioritize rooms based on arrivals, departures, stayovers, and
same-day turns
- Train new team members on cleaning standards, room setup, safety practices, and
time-keeping procedures
- Monitor productivity and quality, providing in-the-moment coaching and escalating performance
concerns to management
- Track linen, amenity, and cleaning supply levels, and flag reorder needs before they become
shortages
- Ensure accurate time records and adherence to California meal and rest break requirements
- Clean guest rooms directly as needed, during high-occupancy turns, staffing gaps, callouts, or
slower days when additional deep cleaning and detail work is scheduled
Guest Experience
- Serve as an on-property point of contact for guest requests, questions, and concerns
- Resolve guest issues promptly and professionally, escalating to management when
appropriate
- Deliver guest requests and amenities, and handle service recovery with a solutions-first
mindset
- Maintain a visible, welcoming, and professional presence throughout the property
Basic Maintenance and Repairs
- Handle small repairs hands-on rather than waiting on a vendor: patching and touch-up paint,
tightening hardware, adjusting doors and locks, replacing light bulbs, batteries, filters, and
shower heads, resetting breakers and GFCIs, unclogging drains and toilets, and similar routine
fixes
- Troubleshoot in-room issues such as TVs, remotes, Wi-Fi connectivity, thermostats,
mini-fridges, and smart lock keypads
- Assemble, mount, and stage furniture and fixtures as needed
- Identify what is beyond a quick fix and escalate to the appropriate vendor or contractor with
clear documentation and photos
- Maintain the tool kit and supply of common replacement parts
Event Support and Sales
- Respond to event inquiries, conduct site tours, and help convert prospective clients into
booked events
- Assist with event proposals, contracts, and booking coordination alongside management
- Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of events held on property, including
weddings, buyouts, private parties, and group stays
- Prepare event spaces: furniture placement, tables and seating, lighting, signage, and general
staging
- Serve as an on-site point of contact during events, coordinating with clients, vendors, and
caterers as they arrive and load in
- Monitor the space throughout the event for cleanliness, safety, capacity, and noise compliance
- Handle post-event reset, cleaning coordination, and damage or loss reporting
- Communicate event schedules to the housekeeping team so room turns and guest arrivals are
planned around them
Operations
- Assist with property opening and closing procedures
- Support coordination with vendors and contractors on site (cleaning, laundry, maintenance)
- Complete daily logs, inspection records, and shift passdown notes accurately and on time
- Follow all health, safety, and property security procedures
Multi-Property Support (Growth Opportunity)
- As the role expands, assist with our short-term rental properties in Santa Barbara, including
room inspections, turnover quality checks, guest issue response, and light maintenance
- Travel to Santa Barbara is scheduled in advance, paid as hours worked, and mileage is
reimbursed
- This is the primary growth path from part-time into a full-time, portfolio-wide role
Qualifications
Required
- 1+ years of hotel housekeeping, room inspection, or hospitality supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of basic maintenance and repair, with the confidence and willingness to fix
small items directly
- Willingness to clean guest rooms when volume, staffing, or the daily schedule calls for it
- Demonstrated eye for detail and consistent quality standards
- Ability to lead, coach, and hold a small team accountable in a respectful, professional way
- Strong guest-service instincts and calm problem-solving under pressure
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and consistent weekend and holiday availability
- Comfortable with smartphone and tablet apps for scheduling, messaging, and reporting
Preferred
- Bilingual English and Spanish, strongly preferred, as much of our housekeeping team
communicates primarily in Spanish
- Event, banquet, or catering setup experience
- Comfort with client-facing sales conversations, site tours, and follow-up
- Willingness and availability to travel to Santa Barbara as the role grows
- Experience with a property management system (Guesty or similar)
- Boutique, independent, or vacation rental property experience
- Familiarity with smart lock systems (Schlage, RemoteLock, or similar)
Physical Requirements
This role requires standing, walking, and climbing stairs for the majority of the shift, bending,
kneeling, and reaching, and lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds. Work is performed both indoors
and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
What We Offer
- $22.00 – $24.00 per hour to start, with increases based on demonstrated performance and
expanded responsibility
- 10% commission on all event bookings on property
- A clear path from part-time to full-time for the right performer, including expanded responsibility
across our Santa Barbara short-term rental portfolio
- Paid travel time and mileage reimbursement for work at other properties
- Direct access to ownership and leadership, where your input shapes how the property runs
- A small team where quality work is noticed, and real variety in the work
