We are a sports card and trading card game (TCG) specialty store dedicated to serving collectors of all experience levels — from first-time buyers to seasoned hobbyists. Whether customers are hunting for a specific rookie card, cracking open a fresh box, or diving into Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, we are their go-to destination. ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Retail Sales Associate at Papajay Cards, you will be the face of our store. You will assist customers with purchases, answer product questions, process transactions, and help keep the store running smoothly day to day. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that requires energy, reliability, and a genuine enthusiasm for sports cards and collectibles. No two days are exactly alike — from helping a customer find a graded card to supporting a live break event, you will be right in the middle of the action.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER SERVICE & SALES
Greet every customer warmly and create a welcoming, knowledgeable in-store experience - Assist customers in locating specific cards, sealed products, supplies, and accessories - Support buying, selling, and trading interactions under management guidance - Answer questions about sports cards, TCGs, card grading, and hobby trends - Process sales transactions accurately using our point-of-sale (POS) system (cash, credit, and debit) - Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with store policy - Promote in-store specials, new arrivals, and loyalty programs STORE OPERATIONS & MERCHANDISING - Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor and display cases - Assist with receiving, pricing, tagging, and organizing incoming inventory - Handle high-value cards and sealed products with care and ensure proper storage and security - Keep supplies (toploaders, penny sleeves, binders, card savers, etc.) fully stocked and organized - Assist with fulfilling online orders and preparing shipments when applicable - Support opening and closing store procedures
TEAM & EVENT SUPPORT
Collaborate with teammates to ensure smooth operations during high-traffic periods and major release days - Assist with in-store events, trade nights, pack breaks, and special promotions - Contribute to a positive, energetic, and team-oriented work environment - Communicate product feedback and customer insights to management
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
Prior experience in retail sales, customer service, or a related field (1+ year preferred) - Strong communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment - Reliable, punctual, and dependable - Basic math skills and comfort using a POS system or cash register - Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25-30 lbs - Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and major product release days PREFERRED (A BIG PLUS): - Knowledge of sports cards (baseball, basketball, football, hockey, etc.) - Familiarity with Trading Card Games such as Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering! - Understanding of card grading services (PSA, BGS, SGC) - Experience with social media or basic content creation for business promotion.
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
