CLASS TITLE: PW Maintenance Worker
CHARACTERISTICS OF CLASS: Operates large trucks and small equipment. Carries out medium to difficult oral or written instructions. Works without constant supervision. Work is performed under direction of crew leader, street foreman, or Public Works Director. Work is checked in progress and upon completion.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Assists in street maintenance.

Drives trucks on occasion.

Operates tractor mower and ditch witch.

Operates small power tools.

Builds curb and guttering and catch basins.

May operate other equipment as needed under direct supervision of Foreman.

Assists in snow and ice removal, storm cleanup.

Sweeps streets and alleys, cleans gutters, culverts, and other drainage structures.

Installs street signs and paints street markings.

Assists in leaf removal, trims trees.
-
May be called out after hours during emergencies, i.e., snow, or ice storm, wind storm, etc.

Loads and unloads, move furniture, stored records, or other heavy items.
-
Cleans areas as assigned, performs minor building maintenance.

Follow safety rules and regulations/ reports potential hazards to Director.

Takes training as assigned.
-
Must be in and remain in good physical condition.

Paint curbs and stripes streets.

Performs related work as required.

Will be required to either hold or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within two years of employment in this position and maintain during tenure in this position.

Performs other duties as assigned by the PW Director or Street Foreman in charge.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of eighth grade education with at least two years experience in construction, carpentry, job involving machinery or related experience. Maintains a valid Kentucky driver's license and good driving record.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under adverse conditions. Ability to safely operate large trucks and small power equipment, i.e., lawnmowers, power saws, skill saws, pavement breaker and perform minor maintenance in the field as needed. Ability to understand and carry out medium to difficult oral instructions. Possess average mechanical aptitude. Some electrical knowledge, carpentry and concrete experience helpful. Must maintain telephone service. Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
