What is needed to be our Associate Director of Aquatics:
- 18+ years of age
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 1+ years of experience in pool management/administration preferred
- 1+ years of swim lesson experience preferred
- American Red Cross certification for Lifeguarding required
- American Red Cross certification for Lifeguard Instructor required within the first six months of employment
- Listen First training within the first six months of employment
- Previous experience with voluntary/non-profit organizations preferred
- Previous YMCA experience preferred
- Knowledge of research methods and a high degree of computer efficiency in Microsoft office products
- Must be organized and possess superior communication skills
- Must have weekend and evening availability
The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Associate Director of Aquatics:
- Under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, the Associate Director of Aquatics will instruct, coach, and ensure quality and safety for the Doylestown branch aquatics department and aquatics programs. The Associate Director will be directly responsible for the safety, development and operation of the aquatics department through the direct service, supervision and leadership of the staff while maintaining positive relationships with members and the community
- Serves as leader for lifeguard supervision and aquatic safety, including scheduling of guards and emergency coverage as needed, fulfilling any vacancies while awaiting proper placement of the position
- In collaboration with the Director of Aquatics, promotes fair pool usage and a positive, nurturing atmosphere for all types of pool users (swim team, open swim, swim lessons, water aerobics, etc.)
- Respond quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents. Accurately prepare and submit Accident and Incident Reports in a timely manner
- Support Special Events and other interdepartmental needs as necessary
- Recruit, train, and consistently develop a staff team which exhibits a welcoming, positive, mature, and empathetic attitude; while displaying living our cause culture
- Through the use of Listen First, establish positive collaborations between staff to staff, staff to participant, and ultimately member to member
- Continually compile and use survey results to close service area gaps such as standard operating procedures, quality of program, pool schedules, knowledge of staff during membership transactions, overall participant satisfaction, and retention
- Serve as the primary leader for lifeguard recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management
- Conduct regular lifeguard in-service trainings, rescue drills, and conditioning programs to ensure staff readiness
- Maintain certification tracking and compliance for all aquatic staff
- Develop and maintain lifeguard schedules that support safe and efficient pool operations
- Ensure proper implementation of all YMCA risk management standards, including Test, Mark, Protect procedures
- Conduct routine audits of pool operations, safety equipment, emergency procedures, and staff performance
- Respond effectively to emergencies, incidents, and accidents while ensuring timely completion of all required documentation
- Promote fair pool usage and a positive atmosphere for all aquatic users, including swim team, swim lessons, open swim, and aquatic fitness participants
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming aquatic environment
Swim Lessons and Aquatic Programming
- Teach swim lessons and private lessons as needed to support program growth and staffing needs
- Assist with instructor development, evaluations, and curriculum implementation
- Support participant placement, retention, and advancement within aquatic programs
- Work collaboratively to increase swim lesson enrollment and participant satisfaction
