Genesee Community Charter Schools (GCCS) Overview
Genesee Community Charter Schools are public charter schools in Rochester, New York educating more than 400 students in kindergarten through sixth grade across two Rochester campuses. The Flour City campus is authorized by the SUNY Charter Schools Institute, and the RMSC campus is authorized by the New York State Board of Regents. Our mission centers intellectual rigor, community responsibility, and respect for diversity. Both schools use a place-based, locally grounded curriculum that draws on the cultural and natural resources of our community.
POSITION TITLE: Music Teacher
REPORTS TO: School Director
Status: Full Time, 10-month
COMPENSATION: The salary for this position ranges from $48,850 to $60,000. The actual starting pay will be determined by various factors, including but not limited to your full-time teaching experience, educational qualifications, certifications, prior service at GCC Schools, and other relevant considerations.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
The role of the Music Teacher is to thoughtfully integrate music and the arts into a dynamic and enriching learning environment that supports the holistic development of students. At GCCS, it is the role of the Music Teacher to deliver a standards based music education in the context of the grade level GCCS curricular framework; to thoughtfully integrate music and the arts into grade level learning expeditions; to create a dynamic and enriching learning environment; to design lessons around each grade level learning expedition that incorporates music to explore multiple perspectives; and demonstrate learning in performances at GCCS Learning Exhibitions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with arts colleagues and classroom teachers
- Meet the NYS music learning standards through meaningful, integrated lessons that mutually support the objectives of the classroom teachers
- Design curriculum that embeds music into classroom content areas using three type of integration - literal, historic/cultural, and conceptual
- Provide innovative ways for children to learn and to express knowledge and concepts
- Teach using the Orff-Schulwerk approach to teaching music
- Create focused lessons using learning targets and a variety of assessment types
- Attend Exhibition Nights for all classes that include music
- Write progress reports for all students
- Plan and lead weekly school-wide Community Circle in collaboration with the Arts team
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership Team to plan the Passage Ceremony
- Attend on and off-site professional development
- Manage students using Responsive Classroom and Restorative Practices
- Provide support services to students as assigned by the School Director
- Support other school needs such as arrival and dismissal process
Culture and Climate
- Support the implementation of Responsive Classroom and GCCS Crew framework as needed
- Implement practices that align with the Code of Conduct and the principles of Restorative Practices
- Establish and maintain a welcoming and respectful learning environment with a strong sense of collective responsibility
- Establish effective routines that maximize learning time in each class/group
- Build positive, supportive relationships with all students
- Support and use the school culture expectations and routines established by the school

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor in K-12 Music Education required, Master’s preferred
- Experience in elementary education preferred
- NYS Fingerprint Clearance
