The Substance Abuse Group Facilitator is responsible for leading and coordinating group counseling sessions for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. This role supports clients through evidence-based interventions, psychoeducation, relapse prevention strategies, and recovery-focused skill development in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.

Facilitate substance abuse and recovery-focused group sessions for clients in in-patient setting

Encourage active participation and foster a respectful, nonjudgmental group environment

Monitor client progress and document attendance, participation, treatment goals, and behavioral observations accurately and timely

Identify clients in crisis and respond appropriately according to organizational protocols

Provide education on substance use disorders, recovery resources, and community support systems

Maintain compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and agency policies

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and program development activities

Support clients in developing recovery goals and accountability strategies

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred

Certification or licensure or In training certificate related to substance abuse counseling preferred (such as CADC, CAC, CACI, CACII, CCIT, or CADC-T)

Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with substance use disorders or behavioral health populations

Knowledge of addiction recovery models, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and group facilitation techniques

Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and documentation skills

Ability to manage group dynamics professionally and effectively

Experience facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups

Familiarity with co-occurring mental health disorders

Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds

Strong organizational and time-management skills

Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems
