About El Quetzal
El Quetzal has been part of Chestnut Hill since 1963 — a curated, community-forward boutique known for jewelry, gifts, and the kind of thoughtful finds you can't get anywhere else. We source from artisan, fair-trade, LGBTQ+, women-, and minority-owned makers, and we believe retail can be a force for good in its neighborhood.
The Role
We're hiring an Assistant Manager for our Chestnut Hill flagship — the Store Manager's right hand and the team's steady presence on the floor. When the Manager is in the room, you make them better. When they're out, you're the leadership in the building: the person the team looks to and the person who owns the day. You turn the plan into action, coach in the moment, and protect both the customer experience and the store's numbers.
This is a hands-on leadership job, not a desk one — you'll be on your feet, moving stock, and on a ladder right alongside the team.
What You'll Do
- Lead the floor — direct the team, set the pace, and make the in-the-moment calls.
- Coach as it happens — model the way we sell: ask, listen, and find the right match for each customer (plus that little something they didn't know they wanted), all while sharing what we carry and what we stand for.
- Sell, still — you're one of the strongest sellers on the floor, leading by example on conversion and average order value and stepping in on complex gifting consults and your regulars.
- Open and close the right way — cash handling, loss prevention, and a clean, secure store.
- Keep the standards high — restocking, a photo-ready floor at all times, and support with scheduling.
- Pitch in on order processing — item codes, POs, splitting orders, and stock transfers. It's all-hands here: whoever's in the store that day helps.
- Help onboard and train new team members, and keep the Manager in the loop on staffing, product, and customer trends before they become issues.
What You Bring
- 2+ years of retail experience. 1 year in a key-holder, lead, or supervisory role is a plus.
- A real track record of personal selling and a genuine love of the floor.
- The ability to coach peers and give feedback that lands well, not harshly.
- Organized, calm on a packed Saturday, and trustworthy with keys, cash, and judgment.
- Polished, professional, and steady — the team takes its cues from you.
- Belief in our mission and the kind of community-first retail we do.
Schedule
- Full-time, with one weekend day every weekend.
- Heightened availability from November 1st through New Year's Eve — our peak selling season — including every Wednesday between Thanksgiving and Christmas and on Special Events.
Room to Grow
This is a role we invest in. For the right person, the Assistant Manager seat is the training ground for running a store of your own. We'd love to have that conversation when you're ready for it.
