Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hiring a Forest Invasive Plant Coordinator within the Division of Forestry. This position leads program management and policy development for the statewide forest invasive plant program for the Division of Forestry.

This position may be headquartered in any DNR Service Center or Forestry Ranger Station within the state, depending on space availability and the location of the selected candidate. Remote work may be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial onboarding period.

Position Summary

This position is the technical expert and strategic planner for forest invasive plant management in the Division and Department. It leads the development and implementation of policy by fostering partnerships between state and federal agencies and guides invasive plant management for state forestry personnel. This position requires applied knowledge of field forest management activities to provide guidance on the sustainable management of forest resources with respect to forest invasive plants. The Forest Invasive Plant Coordinator is a key internal and external consultant for staff, leadership, interdivisional team, and inter-agency teams at the statewide, regional and national levels. The customer base for this position include Division Forest Health staff, three Division Bureaus and three Districts, as well as colleagues throughout the Department and key partner groups, including corresponding programs at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, US Forest Service, tribal governments, Wisconsin communities, non-profit organizations, foundations, and professional organizations related to or allied with forest health issues.

Salary Information

Starting pay for this position is between $35.92 to $42.09 per hour (or $74,713.60 to $87,547.20 annually), in addition to excellent benefits. This position is included in the classification Plant Pest and Disease Specialist Adv, within Pay Schedule/Range 15-03.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Travel: Some statewide travel is required, including occasional overnight and weekend stays.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include experience in ALL the following criteria:

Work experience related to management and control of invasive plants (any type)

In addition, preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:

Work experience related to forest management, including addressing forest invasive plant issues

Experience with strategic planning in a program leadership role

Advanced degree in botany or equivalent

Experience developing budget or grant proposals

Experience developing or revising environmental policies or regulations

Experience developing collaborative partnerships with external parties
