Le Farfalle | Charleston, SC
Located right off King Street (work downtown without dealing with downtown), Le Farfalle is a busy neighborhood Italian restaurant with a strong local following and a growing wine program. We're looking to add an Assistant General Manager who enjoys developing staff, building relationships with guests, and is interested in growing into a General Manager role.
This role is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys restaurants, wine, and taking care of people.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who:
- Builds strong relationships with guests and team members.
- Leads calmly and professionally.
- Enjoys teaching and developing others.
- Is comfortable taking ownership of a busy dining room.
- Brings a well-rounded restaurant background with leadership experience.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who loves being on the floor. Our systems, standards, and team are already well-established. This is not a turnaround project. What we need is someone who can walk into a busy Saturday night, teach about wine, keep the team focused, coach when needed, support the staff, and make sure guests leave happy.
Wine Program & Guest Engagement
Wine is a major focus at Le Farfalle, and this person will be heavily involved in growing the program.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a strong foundation in wine knowledge and a genuine desire to continue learning.
- Be comfortable engaging guests in conversations about wine and helping guide their selections.
- Lead ongoing staff wine education and training.
- Help keep wine education active and make wine a bigger part of both the guest experience and the staff culture.
- Work with ownership and leadership on initiatives to grow wine sales and guest engagement.
Formal wine certifications are appreciated but not required. Passion, curiosity, and the ability to share knowledge with both guests and staff are far more important.
In addition to salary, this position participates in a wine sales incentive program designed to reward growth and engagement within the wine program.
The Role
This is a floor-focused management position. You will be actively involved in nightly service while also supporting the administrative functions that help the restaurant run smoothly.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading service and supporting the dining room team each evening.
- Building relationships with guests and regulars.
- Working closely with the host team to manage reservations, floor plans, and guest flow.
- Assisting with scheduling, onboarding paperwork, and general administrative tasks.
- Maintaining training materials and helping educate staff on menu, wine, and cocktail updates.
- Supporting inventory processes and operational organization.
- Upholding cleanliness and service standards while helping hold the team accountable.
We believe in leading by example. Our managers are expected to be present, approachable, and willing to jump in wherever needed. Every member of the team deserves respect, support, and clear leadership.
Growth Opportunity
This position is designed as a direct pathway to the General Manager role.
The expectation is that you'll spend the first few months learning the operation, getting to know the team, and understanding how we do things. For the right candidate, the goal is a transition into the General Manager role within three to six months as additional concepts continue to develop.
The restaurant already has strong systems, and an experienced team in place. The job is learning how we operate, earning the team's trust, strengthening wine education and service standards, and being ready to step into the General Manager role.
Schedule & Culture
- Full-time position
- Approximately 40 hours per week
- Dinner service only, seven days per week
- Flexible scheduling within the needs of the business
We are dedicated to maintaining a healthy work-life balance for our management team. While hospitality occasionally requires extra time and flexibility, we do not believe in routinely pushing managers into excessive hours.
Our philosophy is simple: people come first, both our guests and our team.
We'd rather hire enough of the right people and build sustainable schedules than expect managers to live at the restaurant.
