*IMMEDIATE OPENING*
We are seeking a hardworking and detail-oriented Safety Officer who is qualified, experienced, and passionate about the importance of safety and who is willing to take proactive steps to ensure the safety of our staff and business. This includes ongoing risk assessments as well as following all local, state and federal safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be familiar with applicable safety standards, have excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and ability to multi-task.
Primary Responsibilities
· Provide training and education to all Company personnel and project stakeholders to promote a zero tolerance/zero injury culture of safety
· Provide leadership in the area of client Health and Safety to influence performance and recognize excellent safety standards and successes.
· Facilitate pre-construction safety planning meetings to plan for potential hazards and problems prior to start of job
· Conduct documented safety and health inspections regularly to ensure adherence to Company safety program, clients’ safety programs, and OSHA compliance
· Keep management informed of regulatory changes and potential risk/exposures to the client. Monitor incident prevention plans and activity hazard analysis and ensure subcontractor compliance with all safety and health requirements.
· Keep management informed on company safety performance or non-performance by tracking safety trends, leading/trailing indicators for the project, and other safety metrics as required.
· Inspect jobsites to ensure adherence to Company safety program and OSHA compliance
· Prepare/organize/audit jobsite documentation for compliance and facilitate company-wide compliance
· Facilitate the completion and collection of appropriate subcontractor safety documentation on a daily basis
· Identify and facilitate project management and other personnel needing assistance, training, or coaching to meet Company safety guidelines and goals
· Perform various safety functions on-site, including managing/administering safety orientations, overseeing substance abuse programs and investigating/reporting injuries/illnesses/incidents
· Monitor and discuss safety programs and efforts with on-site subcontractors and Company employees, ensuring safety is part of our culture and that all new hires (Company or subcontractors) have proper safety documents and information
· Provide updated information to employees regarding safety requirement changes (legal or otherwise)
· Develop evacuation plans and emergency response plans for projects
· Develop and produce site specific safety plans/checklists as required for each project, and verify those of the Subcontractors
· Arrange for basic first aid training for jobsite personnel as required
· Investigate and generate all incident and accident reports in a professional and timely fashion; Conduct or participate in incident investigations for near misses, first aid, and other incidents, and generate all incident and accident reports
· Minimize potential penalties for civil, criminal prosecution and adverse publicity.
· Review job hazards analyses to identify hazards and potential risks. Ensure JHA’s are current and compliant; Review/accept JHA’s.
· Maintain safety documents to ensure compliance with current client requirements
· Provide safety training to all levels of Management and field employees
· Interact with Company management and Safety Manager for the purpose of maintaining, enhancing, or improving current safety programs
· Conduct or participate in incident investigations for near misses, first aid, and other incidents, and generate all incident and accident reports
· Investigate and analyze all injuries and property damage accidents; and, review all accident reports, coordinating corrective measures with Company employees and logging injuries/illnesses for OSHA purposes
· Act as company safety liaison between Company and other agencies, as required
· Coordinate with project personnel so that necessary protective equipment and safety materials are utilized, adequate first aid materials are available and safety documents are posted on-site
· Minimize construction hazards and enforce safety policies utilizing the Company’s disciplinary policy
· Conduct/coordinate Project Safety "Toolbox" meetings with all Company employees on a weekly basis.
· Assist with weekly foremen’s and monthly superintendent’s safety meetings
· Record, save to Company server, and forward copies of all safety related meetings, programs, safety pre-plans, inspections, correspondence, directives, citations, etc. to Management for tracking in real time
· Evaluate construction work activities with respect to safety and loss control
· Provide company-wide or project-specific safety analytics and metrics
· Recognize, analyze, and report Company trends with respect to Company accidents and overall safety on a monthly basis (minimum requirement)
· Effectively manage problem prevention strategies to limit reactionary practices
· Possess extensive expert knowledge of Cal/OSHA occupational safety regulations
· Perform administrative functions as directed by Management.
· Make recommendations on safety improvements.
· Complete other responsibilities as assigned
· Assist all Company Superintendents with ensuring Subcontractor compliance
· Monitor incident prevention plans and activity hazard analysis and ensure subcontractor compliance with all safety and health requirements.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
· Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a safety capacity in the construction industry
· Ability to evaluate construction work activities with respect to safety and loss control
· Must be an excellent communicator
· Ability to recognize and analyze Company trends with respect to Company accidents
· Well-disciplined; ability to maintain detailed schedule servicing all Company divisions
· Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills required
· Ability to perform various safety functions on-site, including managing/administering safety orientations, overseeing substance abuse programs and investigating/reporting injuries/illnesses/incidents
· Ability to work with all project stakeholders: management, owners, trades and subcontractors
· Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time
· OSHA 500 certification preferred
· Current OSHA 30 Certificate
· CHST or CSP preferred
· First Air/CPR Trained
· Bilingual (English - Spanish) is helpful
· Expert knowledge of Cal/OSHA occupational safety regulations
· Extensive and in-depth knowledge and ability to interpret and apply federal, state and local environmental regulations.
· Fluent with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
