Position Title: Job Developer I
Location: Newark NJ

We are seeking an experienced Job Developer. If you are looking to join our dedicated team, we want to hear from you! Supported Employment Job Developers are responsible for working with persons with disabilities (PWD) through a process known as Customized Employment where we determine who needs pre-placement supports or customized job development services. The Job Developer I is an entry-level workforce development professional responsible for assisting individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment in obtaining and maintaining competitive employment. This role focuses on participant engagement, job readiness preparation, employer outreach support, and placement activities under supervision. The Job Developer I works closely with participants, employers, vocational counselors, and community partners to support employment goals through career exploration, job matching, resume assistance, interview preparation, and follow-along support services.
The Awesome Things You’ll Do
- Assist participants with job readiness activities including resumes, applications, interview preparation, and workplace communication.
- Support participants in identifying vocational interests, strengths, and employment goals.
- Conduct intake interviews and maintain participant records.
- Assist participants with attending career fairs, interviews, and hiring events.
- Provide ongoing encouragement and retention support after placement.
- Responsible placing 25 individuals per year.
- Provide 30 hours of direct services weekly.
- Responsible for developing appropriate resumes for consumers in program.
- When necessary, fill out paper and/or online applications with individual
- Support outreach efforts to local businesses and community employers.
- Assist in developing internship and work experience opportunities.
- Maintain positive relationships with employer partners.
- Coordinate interviews between employers and participants.
- Maintain accurate case notes, service plans, and participant documentation within required timelines.
- Enter services and outcomes into agency databases and electronic record systems.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and agency standards.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and case conferences.
- Work collaboratively with internal programs and community agencies.
- Assist with special projects and outreach events as assigned.
- JD is responsible for “job matching” a participant’s experience, temperament and stated work settings and goals in order to place in appropriate job.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by JD Supervisor and/or Management/Coordinator
- Maintain DVRS, CARF standards and ensure HIPAA confidentiality of records (daily)
Activities are subject to change / be added to meet business needs with management approval.
Our Must Haves
- High school or GED required at minimum; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- 2 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities
- Experience as a Job Developer and/or Sales Marketing or related field a plus
- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain employer relationships with business and industry with a particular focus on employers providing employment opportunity in various fields
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong presentation and networking skills
- Must be able to work with difficult population and defuse tense situations
- Must be a team player and have strong work ethic
- Must be flexible, open to new ideas, creative, and energetic
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize competing demands
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT)
- Field based position, must be able to travel to multiple sites daily
- Good oral and written communication skills and basic math skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook required.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time management Skills.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License and reliable transportation preferred.
Special Working Conditions
- Position is community-based & site based which requires frequent travel throughout Northern New Jersey.
- Work schedules may include evenings, periodic weekends, community events, and employer/participants needs.
- Worksites and community environments may vary based on participant and employer needs.
- Must be able to stand, walk, travel between sites, and lift up to 30 lbs occasionally.
