Position Summary: The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Director in ensuring that all Ithaka Housing properties are safe, clean, and well-maintained. This role involves hands-on maintenance work, assisting with property upkeep, and supporting special projects. The ideal candidate is a reliable, skilled generalist who enjoys working independently and as part of a team. Additional hours potentially available.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Support:
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and appliance repairs.
- Help with the turnover of vacant units (e.g., painting, patching, cleaning, fixture replacement).
- Perform groundskeeping duties such as trash pickup, light landscaping, and snow removal.
- Support emergency maintenance response as available (after hours pay bonous).
- Help monitor and maintain building systems and report issues to the Maintenance Director.
Project & Equipment Assistance:
- Assist with special projects such as property inspections, fire extinguisher renewals, and seasonal maintenance.
- Help maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order.
- Support the Maintenance Director in coordinating with vendors and contractors.
Team Collaboration:
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with residents, staff, and volunteers.
- Follow safety protocols and assist in ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations.
- Communicate effectively with the Maintenance Director and other team members.
Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.).
- Ability to lift & carry 50 lbs; perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, & standing for extended periods.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License and clean driving record preferred.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take direction.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in residential or property maintenance.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in general repairs and landscaping.
