JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Entry Level Service Technician
Reports To: Service Manager
Position Information:
The Entry Level Service Technician is responsible for inspecting and lubricating cars and light trucks in a quick and efficient manner in accordance with policies and procedures as set forth by the Service Manager. The Entry Level Technician will also be servicing tires, installing accessories, and performing new vehicle preparation service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive repair orders from staff and take to stall area. Use repair order to obtain parts and to log all required documentation. Turn paperwork in upon completion of job.
- Required documentation includes: Documenting all work performed by writing on the repair order the amount and type of oil, the part numbers for oil filters, air filters, wiper blades or any other parts used in the service.
- Perform multipoint vehicle inspection and document as required by manager.
- Inspect fluid levels of power steering, cooling, transmission, and differential systems on vehicle. If necessary; add fluid to correct level with correct type of fluid as specified.
- Check tire pressure of all tires and set to specification.
- Examine all vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is required. Inform Service Advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
- Drain oil from crankcase and refill with required type and amount of oil. Replace oil filters and air filters upon customer approval.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Ensure that customer's cars are kept clean. Perform light cleaning service to vehicles when directed by staff.
- Keep your bench and work area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership owned tools and equipment at all times.
- Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
- Follow company safety procedures to avoid exposure to fumes, dirt, and harsh chemicals.
- Attend dealership OSHA Training on proper use and handling of chemical agents used in the work place.
- Demonstrate behavior consistent with the dealership vision, mission and values in all interactions with customers, staff, and outside vendors.
- Mount and balance tires and repair tires.
- Install accessories such as mud guards, running boards, tonneau covers, etc.
- Work with new vehicle inspection and perform service inspection as per manufacturer guidelines.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent. Applicant must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions and information in person and effectively learn through computer training sessions. Qualified applicants must have a valid driver license and the ability to maintain oral and written communication skills. The ability to drive manual transmission and any experience as a technician helper or apprentice is a plus. General knowledge in all aspects of automotive repair and maintenance is required.
Working Conditions:
This is a physically demanding position. The Technician will stand six to nine hours per shift, lift parts weighing up to seventy pounds several times during each shift, and use hoist and test equipment as needed. S/he will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. S/he will use hand power tools. S/he will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials. The Technician will be required to wear a dealership uniform at all times.
