We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Sushi Chef Helper to join our vibrant culinary team. Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing sushi ingredients, including slicing fish and vegetables using proper knife skills and slicing techniques
- Support the chef in assembling sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and other Japanese specialties according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including sanitizing workstations and operating kitchen equipment safely
- Follow food safety management protocols to ensure proper food handling, storage, and hygiene practices throughout all stages of food preparation
- Help with meal preparation for catering events or daily service, adhering strictly to recipe adherence guidelines
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to coordinate tasks efficiently and ensure smooth workflow during busy periods
- Assist in inventory management by monitoring ingredients’ freshness and notifying supervisors of supply needs
Experience
- Previous experience in a dietary department or dietary aide role is advantageous but not required; enthusiasm for learning is valued highly
- Familiarity with food industry standards related to food safety, handling, and sanitation practices is essential
- Experience working in restaurant or food service environments will help you excel in this role
- Knowledge of culinary techniques, especially knife skills and slicing methods specific to sushi preparation, is preferred
- Prior kitchen experience involving operating commercial kitchen equipment such as rice cookers, sushi mats, or refrigeration units is beneficial
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and ensure safety standards are maintained at all times
- A background in catering or meal preparation services will support your success in this position
