4 West is a general surgical unit which provides care for general surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, trauma, burn and ENT patients. Our 20 bed unit includes a treatment room, four specialty burn patient rooms and a playroom. All patient rooms are private. Patients range in age from neonates to 18 years. We occasionally treat young adults. We work with attending, fellow and resident surgeons and surgery team APRNs as well as medical team physicians when medical patients overflow onto our unit. Common diagnoses: apendectomy, shunt malfunction, cleft lip/palate repair, pectus repair, fundoplication, pyloric stenosis, VP shunt placement, trauma, burn.
Care Assistants provide basic, uncomplicated patient care and assist with unit/department operations under the supervision of registered nurses. Assignment of job responsibilities are as delegated by registered nurses assigned to supervise the care assistant and in accordance with this job description.
