Are you a dedicated Medical Technologist (MT / MLS) looking for a high-impact PRN role in Laredo, TX?
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Technologist to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will perform routine and specialized moderate- to high-complexity laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens with minimal supervision. You will play a vital role in patient care by delivering fast, accurate, and reliable test results while maintaining stringent quality control and laboratory safety standards.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Laboratory Testing: Accurately and efficiently perform moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens; document and report results in a timely manner.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Perform strict QC protocols, analyze data, troubleshoot out-of-range results, and take swift corrective actions. Assist with proficiency testing and regulatory accreditation data collection.
- Instrument Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Conduct routine daily, weekly, and monthly instrument function checks and preventative maintenance. Resolve technical malfunctions or escalate to leadership/manufacturers as needed.
- Safety & Regulatory Protocols: Ensure strict adherence to lab safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, and the facility Laboratory Safety Plan.
- Patient Care Support: Perform phlebotomy duties and collect chain-of-custody urine drug screens as required to support patient care needs.
- Team Collaboration & Training: Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and healthcare teams regarding critical results or instrument issues. Assist in training new team members and clinical students.
- Operational Duties: Maintain regular, reliable attendance and collaborate with team members to ensure all shift and department responsibilities are completed accurately. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
Education (One of the following required):
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science OR
- Passing score on the HHS/HEW-approved Clinical Laboratory Technology Proficiency Examination.
Experience:
- 0 to 2 years of acute care laboratory experience required.
Certifications & Licensure (Required)
Must possess at least one of the following active credentials:
- ASCP: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS)
- AMT: Medical Laboratory Technologist
- AAB: Medical Laboratory Technologist
Skills & Knowledge
- Solid foundation in clinical laboratory procedures, quality control protocols, and safety standards.
- Hands-on ability to troubleshoot instrument issues and utilize Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking abilities in a high-volume setting.
- Strong communication skills and population-specific clinical competency across diverse patient demographics.
