Responsibilities
- Perform grooming services including bathing, brushing, trimming, clipping, and styling to meet each pet’s specific needs and breed standards
- Handle animals safely and confidently using proper restraint techniques to ensure their comfort and safety during grooming procedures
- Assess each pet’s coat condition and skin health, recommending additional veterinary or veterinary technician consultation if necessary
- Maintain a clean and sanitary grooming area by regularly disinfecting tools and workstations
- Communicate effectively with pet owners to understand their grooming preferences and provide expert advice on pet care and maintenance
- Assist with pet handling during grooming appointments, ensuring animals are calm and comfortable throughout the process
- Support pet care routines such as ear cleaning, nail trimming, and de-shedding treatments
- Keep detailed records of grooming services provided and any special instructions or observations for future reference
- Collaborate with veterinary staff or veterinary assistants when animals require medical attention or special handling due to health issues
- Participate in ongoing training related to dog training techniques, animal handling, and new grooming trends to continually enhance skills
Experience
Candidates should possess a strong background in pet grooming with a keen eye for detail and animal handling skills. Prior experience working with dogs is essential; familiarity with dog training techniques is a plus. Experience working alongside veterinary professionals—such as veterinary technicians or veterinary assistants—will be highly valued. Additional experience in animal handling across different species like equines or other small animals can be beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in animal restraint techniques, pet sitting duties, kennel experience, heavy lifting capabilities for managing larger pets, and excellent customer service skills.
