Position Summary
The Payment Poster is responsible for accurately and efficiently posting all insurance and patient payments into the practice management system, ensuring the integrity of financial data and timely reconciliation of accounts. This position plays a critical role in maintaining revenue flow by verifying payment accuracy, resolving discrepancies, and supporting the overall revenue cycle process for a multi-location retina practice.
List of Responsibilities/Duties
- Accurately post payments, adjustments, and denials from electronic remittance advices (ERAs) and paper Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) into the billing system daily.
- Post patient payments received from the front desk, lockbox, and online payment portals.
- Balance batches and reconcile daily deposits to ensure accuracy of entries.
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies or missing payments by working with insurance carriers, banking partners, and internal staff.
- Review underpaid claims and route for follow-up when necessary.
- Verify correct application of payments to patient accounts and ensure adjustments comply with contractual agreements.
- Collaborate with billing and collections teams to identify and correct payment posting errors.
- Maintain detailed logs or reports of posted payments for audit and reconciliation purposes.
- Assist with month-end closing and revenue reconciliation as directed by the Revenue Cycle Manager.
- Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA compliance and internal policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in business, healthcare administration, or accounting preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing or payment posting; ophthalmology or retina experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of EOBs, ERAs, and insurance payment processes.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems (e.g., NextGen, ModMed, Nextech, or similar).
- Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and insurance claim forms (CMS-1500).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
