The Mental Health Specialist will coordinate the provision of counseling and social services in a public school setting, to students and their families facing obstacles to academic and personal success.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in a social work, counseling, psychology or behavioral sciences
- LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LMSW, LBP or under supervision
- Related experience in the field (including post graduate internship hours)
- Experience with at-risk populations and cross-cultural environments
- Ability to set priorities and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to articulate program goals in a public setting
- Bilingual ability in Spanish and English preferred
- A willingness to follow the philosophy of CIS and operate as a team player
- Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and must have reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a fingerprint based background check under TEA regulations
Major Responsibilities

Service Delivery
- Provide individual and group counseling to targeted students
- Provide crisis intervention during critical situations at CIS campuses
- Provide case management to targeted students as needed
- Collaborate with appropriate school staff that focus on student support services
- Provide training on issues relevant to Mental Health
- Collaborate with Site Coordinators at CIS campuses to gather recommendations for targeted students to receive mental health services
- Communicate with CIS Site Coordinator on a regular basis to seek input and report on student progress
- Monitor and document student progress toward goals
- Gather parent and student feedback
- Evaluate program effectiveness
