Job Description:
Hiring for full-time High Complexity Grossing Technician/ Laboratory Assistant
Performances:
- Perform gross examination and sectioning of tissue samples according to standard protocols and specific pathologist instructions.
- Accurately record gross descriptions, specimen measurements, and processing notes.
- Ensure proper labeling and tracking of specimens throughout the lab workflow.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the grossing area.
- Assist with routine maintenance and calibration of grossing equipment.
- Communicate with pathologists and other lab personnel to clarify specimen handling requirements.
- Adhere to lab safety protocols including use of PPE and handling of biological and chemical materials.
- Prolonged periods of standing and working at a lab bench.
- Ability to lift to 30 lbs. occasionally.
- Perform laboratory/research tasks.
- Operates a data entry device to record or verify a variety of standard and/or complex business and statistical source data into a compute
Education Requirements:
- An earned associate or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology or a related laboratory science from an accredited institution; OR
- Education and training equivalent to an associate degree that includes at least 60 semester hours (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, including either:
o At least 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology courses; OR
o At least 24 semester hours in science courses, which must include:
o 6 semester hours in chemistry
o 6 semester hours in biology
o The remaining 12 semester hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, in any combination
Additional Requirements:
- 1–3 years’ experience in Anatomic Pathology or a related laboratory environment
- General computer experience, including data entry and laboratory information systems (LIS)
- Strong understanding of laboratory practices, procedures, and safety standards
- Ability to follow protocols with accuracy and attention to detail
- Fluent in speaking and writing English
- Ability to work under general supervision with good judgment and organization skills
