Optometric Technician
Reed Eye Care Center in Fairview Heights, IL is seeking a friendly, motivated, and patient-focused Optometric Technician to join our growing team. Position Summary
As an Optometric Technician, you will work directly with our doctors to provide outstanding patient care. You will perform preliminary testing, document patient histories, assist with specialized diagnostic testing, educate patients, and help ensure a smooth and efficient patient experience from check-in to check-out.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and create a positive first impression.
- Escort patients through the examination process.
- Obtain and accurately document patient medical and ocular histories.
- Perform preliminary testing, including:
- Visual acuity
- Auto-refraction
- Lensometry
- Tonometry (intraocular pressure)
- OCT imaging
- Retinal photography
- Visual field testing
- Additional diagnostic testing as needed
- Prepare patients for examination by the doctor.
- Enter accurate information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Educate patients regarding recommended testing, treatment plans, contact lenses, and eye health.
- Assist with contact lens training and patient education.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment between patients.
- Maintain organized exam lanes and testing areas.
- Work collaboratively with doctors and fellow team members to provide an exceptional patient experience.
- Assist with front office duties when needed, including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and collecting patient payments.
Qualifications
- Previous healthcare or optometric experience preferred but not required—we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfortable using computers and learning new software.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
