The NM State Land Office has a Non-Emergency Telework Policy, which allows eligible employees to telework up to twenty-four (24) hours a week consistent with the agency's business needs.

Why does the job exist?
The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. This position oversees the preparation and review of hundreds of instruments, as well as the associated petroleum and geologic data, to ensure that development activities on NMSLO lands are conducted prudently and in a manner that maximizes royalty revenue for the State of New Mexico and its trust beneficiaries.
How does it get done?
This position supervises employees within the new Communitization and Subsurface Easements Bureau, assigning and prioritizing work based on workload, complexity, and staff expertise. This position is responsible for training and mentoring employees to enhance their technical knowledge and understanding of the bureau functions. This position oversees compliance activities related to communitization agreements, subsurface easements, and other associated instruments, including monitoring compliance with approved extensions and regularly reviewing agreements for production lapses or other compliance concerns. This position evaluates compliance issues and provides recommendations to management regarding the approval of agreements and the initiation of appropriate compliance actions. This position coordinates with the Oil Conservation Division (OCD) and the Royalty Management Division (RMD) to address wells awaiting regulatory approval that may result in royalty suspense issues. Responsibilities include preparing and tracking related documentation, communicating with OCD and RMD regarding well status, and contacting operators to facilitate required actions and ensure timely resolution of outstanding regulatory and compliance matters.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Civil, or Geological Engineering and six (6) years of experience in a government regulatory role including oil field experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
