Overview
The Conservator is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, order, and readiness of all church facilities. This includes daily cleaning and sanitation, preparation for services and special events, facility upkeep, and supporting volunteers. The Conservator plays a vital role in maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for all congregants, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Sanitation and Cleaning
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in all areas of the facility.
- Dust and polish furniture and wooden surfaces; clean windows, brass fixtures, doors, and walls.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, sanctuary, kitchen, offices, and event spaces.
- Disinfect high-touch areas regularly to maintain health and safety standards.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste responsibly.
- Replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.
- Sweep walkways and remove debris to keep entrances clean and safe.
- Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, or damage to the supervisor.
Event and Service Preparation
- Set up and break down chairs, tables, and equipment for services, weddings, funerals, and other events.
- Ensure the sanctuary and altar are clean, orderly, and prepared before and after services.
- Restock hospitality and church supplies as needed.
- Assist with general support during events and services, including space transitions and supply setup.
Facility Upkeep
- Monitor facility conditions and report any issues (e.g., plumbing, electrical, structural).
- Maintain cleanliness of entryways, vestibule, and external walkways.
- Restock cleaning and bathroom supplies from storage as needed.
- Clear sidewalks and outdoor areas of litter, debris, and ashtray contents.
Security and Safety
- Ensure all lights, appliances, and equipment are turned off when not in use.
- Lock all doors and windows when facilities are not occupied.
- Alert supervisor or leadership to any suspicious activity or safety concerns.
Volunteer Coordination
- Assist in organizing and assigning volunteer tasks for cleaning and setup.
- Train volunteers on proper cleaning procedures and safe use of materials and equipment.
- Maintain and oversee a rotating cleaning schedule to ensure consistent upkeep across all church areas.
Qualifications:
- Prior custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well with staff and volunteers.
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful and reverent environment in a religious setting.
Pay: $15.45 - $17.45 per hour
