Store Manager – Specialty Pet Retail

Full-time, salaried position, Approx. 40 hours/week
Salary: $38,000–$42,000 per year, based on experience
Buzz n’ B’s is a locally owned, independent aquarium and pet store serving the Erie community. Our approximately 8,000-square-foot store offers a wide variety of animals, specialty pet supplies and knowledgeable guidance that customers cannot find in a typical big-box retail environment.
We are looking for an experienced, dependable Store Manager who can lead our team, maintain high standards and take ownership of the store’s daily operations. This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable leading from the sales floor—not a desk-only management role.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the store’s day-to-day operations and maintain consistent standards across all departments
- Lead, coach and hold team members accountable while creating a positive and respectful work environment
- Delegate responsibilities clearly and follow through to ensure work is completed correctly
- Assist with scheduling, staff coverage and daily assignments
- Support department leads and maintain clear communication throughout the store
- Provide excellent customer service and confidently resolve customer concerns
- Oversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling and other daily operational tasks
- Help manage inventory, receiving, merchandising and product organization
- Ensure animal-care, cleanliness and safety standards are consistently followed
- Monitor sales, labor and overall store performance
- Work directly with the owner to identify and implement operational improvements
- Step in wherever needed during busy periods
Qualifications
- Previous retail management or comparable leadership experience required
- Strong communication, organization and follow-through
- Confidence providing feedback, addressing performance concerns and holding employees accountable
- Ability to prioritize effectively in a busy environment with many moving parts
- Dependable, level-headed and comfortable making day-to-day decisions
- Strong customer-service and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn about a wide variety of animals and products
- Pet-industry, animal-care or specialty-retail experience is preferred, but strong management experience is more important
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary of $38,000–$42,000 per year, based on experience
