Job Summary
- The role of the 988 Crisis Worker is to de-escalate crisis situations, relieve the immediate distress of individuals in crisis, reduce the risk of individuals doing harm to themselves or others, and provide mental health information and referrals as needed.
- Actively listens to callers in distress who may present feelings of suicide, homicide, psychosis, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, substance dependence, family conflicts and/or just needing someone to listen
- Provides empathetic support while evaluating the severity of the crisis, assessing risk, de-escalating situations, problem solving, and creating individual safety plans
- Monitors calls for possible suicide in progress, sexual assault, reportable abuse, neglect and exploitation, frequent callers, and line abusers
- Coordinates intervention assistance with local mental health center or law enforcement when required due to severity of risk
- Ensures all caller interactions and interventions are accurately and confidentially documented in an electronic record system
Requirements
- Must be fluent in English
- High school diploma/ GED (additional educational experience is a plus)
- Positive work history
- Computer literate and typing skills of 35 WPM/ 90% accuracy (typing test administered)
- Pass a background check
- Ability to work onsite in a fast-paced, 24/7 call center
- Strong active listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused during high-stress situations
- Must demonstrate progression in and pass an in-house Crisis Intervention training program

- Base Pay Rate of $20.20/hr; $22.20/hr with a completed Bachelor's degree in the behavioral health/social science field (i.e. social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, etc.)
- Additional shift differential of $1/hr (4pm-12am) and $2/hr (12am-8am)
