Food Service Cook (2026-2027 School Year) at Patton Jr High
Job Description
Prior food service experience is not necessary for the Food Service Cook position. The district will train all new food service employees.
Purpose: The Food Service Cook prepares and serves a full range of food and baked products for school meals, catered events, and snacks, and cleans all areas of the kitchen.
Reports to: Kitchen Manager and Director of Food Service
Salary and FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Classified Matrix Column A (matrix placement based on years of experience in a similar role in the K-12 school setting)
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED

Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after an employment offer is made)

Maintain current TB testing as required by Health Department regulations
-
Ability to maintain a neat, clean appearance
-
Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance
-
Demonstrate above-average communication skills
-
Demonstrate the ability to work well with colleagues and students

No prior food service experience is necessary for this position, but the Food Service Cook must be able to pass all district and state-level required trainings
Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

Support a positive working environment and respond to the needs of students and staff related to food service

Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community

Operate all kitchen equipment appropriately and safety, and complete required trainings

Follow all policies and procedures of the kitchen, including district, state, and federal policies with respect to food handling and serving

Work to implement the District’s vision, mission, and goals

Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work

Prepare and serve various meals, snacks, and beverages under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager and Director of Food Service

Follow recipes precisely and accurately

Accurately scan barcodes for students at lunch service and accurately charge to lunch accounts

Maintain strict awareness of and follow all allergy protocols and procedures with diligence at all times

Maintain a clean working space in the kitchen and perform duties such as dishwashing and deep cleaning of equipment

Assist individual students in selecting and eating a healthy lunch, following all KSDE standards

Keep student and personnel records confidential

Adhere strictly to professional ethics

Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Kitchen Manager, Principal, or Food Service Director
