The Information Technology Manager supports the UIC Law School Information Technology Services (ITS) Director by overseeing daily operations, budgeting, purchasing, project management, and strategic initiatives. The position ensures compliance with university policies, security standards, and operational procedures while coordinating resources, managing projects, and supporting the delivery of IT services.
The role emphasizes managerial leadership, operational effectiveness, staff coordination, and continuous improvement. Working with stakeholders across the Law School, the IT Manager helps advance departmental goals, mitigate operational risks, and support leadership continuity through succession planning and knowledge transfer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Assisting with project planning by helping define scope, objectives, and timelines
- Coordinating team members and internal resources to ensure tasks are completed on schedule
- Tracking project progress and addressing issues as they arise
- Maintaining accurate and organized project documentation
- Supporting risk and change management activities
- Communicating regularly with stakeholders and providing necessary updates
- Guiding the preparation of status reports for upper management
- Participating in project meetings
- Ensuring adherence to project procedures, rules, and regulations; and working with clients to clarify project objectives and scope
- Communication plans - lead the organization of departmental responses and data preparation for surveys and 15% reports required by professional associations and accreditors
Budget:
- Supports development of the annual operating and capital budgets
- Oversees departmental budgets, and conducts regular reconciliations
- Authorizing expenditures and payments, preparing required financial reports, reconciling monthly statements, and submitting journal entries as needed
- Manage departmental purchasing—processing contracts and requisitions, maintaining the P Card, and coordinating with Law School administration, UIC Purchasing, and University Payables
- Oversee vendor relationships, including contract negotiations and renewals, invoice and payment processing, dispute resolution, and ensuring license compliance
Staff Supervision:
- Supervise and develop direct reports by providing guidance
- Setting performance expectations
- Conducting evaluations, supporting professional growth
- Ensuring staff have the resources and direction needed to meet departmental goals
Policy Development:
- Assist in developing, implementing, and managing IT use and security policies, ensuring they are communicated and followed when allocating IT equipment (such as computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones) to students and staff.
- Provide product and vendor recommendations or make purchasing decisions based on the needs of specific projects.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or closely related field of study.
- Minimum of 8 years of professional IT experience which includes 2 years’ experience at a supervisory or management capacity.
- Demonstrated PPO/PMO Project Management which includes demonstrated experience in managing all aspects of a diverse IT project or multiple IT projects. Define project timeline and resolve issues to ensure completion of project goals and requirements within defined timeline.
- Required demonstrated experience in Asset Management and Budgeting.
