A well-established small-animal veterinary clinic serving the community in Placentia is hiring for two Veterinary Assistant/Technician positions:
- Client Service and Front-Desk Support: This position’s primary responsibilities involve supporting clients, managing the front desk, and coordinating patient visits.
- Clinical and Patient-Care Support: This position’s primary responsibilities involve assisting the veterinarian and providing hands-on care to patients.
Both team members will work collaboratively and may assist in other areas as clinic needs arise. We are looking for experienced veterinary professionals who communicate with warmth and professionalism, understanding that caring for pets also means caring for the people who love them.

- Pay: Starting at $21.00 per hour, with the potential for higher compensation based on demonstrated education, veterinary experience, clinical skills and duties.
- Schedule: One weekday shift is typically 8:00am-6:00pm, with a standard two-hour lunch break; the other shift is 9:00am - 6:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break. Willingness and availability to work Saturdays from 9:00am-2:00pm when coverage needs arise is important.

Client Service and Front-Desk Support Veterinary Assistant
This position serves as an important first point of contact for our clients and helps ensure each visit is welcoming, organized, and efficient.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a welcoming, compassionate, and professional experience for every client and patient.
- Greet clients and check patients in for appointments, confirming client information and accurately updating patient records.
- Check clients and patients out following appointments, including reviewing charges, collecting payments, and accurately posting payments within the veterinary software system.
- Answer incoming calls and respond warmly and efficiently to client questions in a clear and courteous manner.
- Schedule and confirm appointments using veterinary clinic client-management and scheduling software.
- Accurately create, update, and maintain client and patient records.
- Help clients understand appointment expectations, veterinarian recommendations, charges, and next steps.
- Manage multiple priorities calmly and professionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate patience and empathy when assisting clients who may be worried, frustrated, or facing difficult decisions.
- Take ownership of client needs and follow through on commitments.
- Communicate effectively with the veterinarian and clinical team to support coordinated patient care.
- Assist with patient handling and other clinic responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- At least one year of front-desk experience in a veterinary clinic using veterinary clinic client-management and scheduling software is required.
- Experience checking patients in and out, collecting payments, and accurately posting transactions within a veterinary software system.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Confidence communicating with clients both by phone and in person.

Clinical and Patient-Care Support Veterinary Assistant/Technician
This position works closely with the veterinarian to support daily clinical operations and provide safe, compassionate care to patients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the veterinarian with examinations, procedures, treatments, and daily clinical operations.
- Prepare, clean, and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Safely and properly restrain and handle animals during examinations and procedures.
- Assist with radiographic positioning while following clinic training and established safety practices.
- Clean, sterilize, and organize surgical instruments.
- Draw blood, including jugular and intravenous draws, based on demonstrated competency.
- Administer IM, IV, and SQ injections as permitted by training, applicable requirements, and veterinarian supervision.
- Accurately document patient information and services within the veterinary software system.
- Monitor patients and promptly communicate concerns or changes to the veterinarian.
- Communicate compassionately and professionally with clients regarding their pets.
- Work collaboratively with the veterinarian and other team members to support efficient, high-quality care.
- Assist with client service and front-desk responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- At least one year of veterinary assistant or technician experience is required.
- Demonstrated experience safely handling and restraining dogs and cats.
- Experience with blood draws, injections, radiographic positioning, and surgical instrument preparation is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with veterinary clinic software and accurate patient documentation.
- Ability to follow instructions, learn clinic processes, and ask questions when clarification is needed.
- Ability to remain calm, attentive, and compassionate in a fast-paced and sometimes high-stress environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, and a professional demeanor.
