Westminster Presbyterian Church ‘Tween (4th - 6th grade) Sunday School Teacher
Position Overview
Westminster Presbyterian Church of Olympia, WA is a progressive Christian community committed to inclusion, justice, and spiritual growth. We are seeking a Sunday school teacher who is passionate about working with young people and helping create a safe, engaging, and affirming environment for tween-aged children of all backgrounds.
This part-time position offers hands-on experience in ministry, leadership development, and faith formation within a supportive and collaborative church setting. We expect this position to be 5 hours a week with a general breakdown of:
Sunday mornings- 10:00 am-12:30 pm (2.5 hours)
Preparation during week- 2 hours
Communication during week- .5 hours
Key Responsibilities
*Prep for and teach a ‘Tween (4th - 6th grade) Sunday school class every Sunday morning with support of volunteer leaders.
* Build positive, supportive relationships with youth and their families
* Collaborate with church staff and volunteers on curriculum and lesson planning
* Provide administrative support (communication, set-up/clean-up as needed)
* Send a weekly email to a list of parents, guardians, and teachers of the upcoming class for that Sunday
* Model a faith that is compassionate, open-minded, and justice-oriented
Qualifications
* Interest in youth ministry, education, social work, or a related field
* Basic knowledge of PCUSA doctrines. (Will work with anyone who is not familiar with the Presbyterian Church (USA))
* Comfortable working with ‘tween-aged students
* Alignment with progressive Christian values, including inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals and a commitment to social justice
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
* Creative, flexible, and dependable
Preferred (but not required)
* Previous experience working with youth (church, camp, school, or community programs)
* First Aid/CPR certification
Compensation
$25 an hour for 5 hours a week.
