Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Mechanic III (Painter) to join our facilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for executing all aspects of commercial/institutional surface preparation and finishing across all buildings within the district. The ideal candidate takes pride in high-quality work, works well independently during the evening shift, and ensures facilities remain clean, safe, and visually appealing.
Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Perform all necessary prep work prior to painting, including washing, scraping, sanding, spackling, taping, patching drywall, and repairing damaged surfaces.
- Application & Finishing: Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamels, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces, walls, trim, doors, and structural components using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Refinishing: Restore and refinish wooden, metal, or drywall surfaces across various district facilities.
- Safety & Cleanliness: Select and mix appropriate paints and coatings; maintain equipment and tools; clean up worksites; and strictly follow district safety guidelines and hazardous material protocols.
- District Support: Assist with general maintenance and facility needs as assigned across all district buildings.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience as a commercial, residential, or institutional painter.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in taping, spackling, drywall repair, color matching, surface prep, and operating standard painting tools/equipment.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy equipment/paint cans, climb ladders, work on scaffolding, and stand/bend for extended periods.
- Reliability: Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently during the 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM shift.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required to travel between district buildings.
Salary & Benefits
- Compensation: Paid according to the Teamsters Local 237 Operations Contract pay scale (step placement based on contract terms).
