Position Summary
Starbound Theatre Performing Arts Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative Dance Instructor & Choreographer to inspire students through movement, performance, and artistic expression. This individual will teach weekly dance classes across all Academy levels while serving as Choreographer for Starbound Theatre productions and special events.
The ideal candidate is passionate about working with young performers and creating choreography that is engaging, age-appropriate, and tells a story while helping students build confidence, discipline, and teamwork.
Primary Responsibilities
Performing Arts Academy Instruction
Teach weekly dance classes for students across all Academy levels, including:
- Little Stars
- Rising Stars
- Junior Stars
- Shining Stars
- Super Stars
Develop engaging, age-appropriate curriculum focused on:
- Dance fundamentals
- Musical theatre dance
- Jazz
- Ballet basics
- Contemporary movement
- Hip-hop fundamentals
- Tap (if applicable)
- Stretching and flexibility
- Strength and conditioning
- Rhythm and musicality
- Stage movement
- Performance quality
- Dance terminology
- Choreography and creative movement
Prepare students for Academy showcases and performances while encouraging individual growth and confidence.
Production Choreography
Serve as Choreographer for Starbound Theatre productions by:
- Creating original choreography that supports the Director's artistic vision.
- Teaching choreography to performers of varying ages and experience levels.
- Collaborating closely with the Director, Music Director, and production team.
- Staging musical numbers, transitions, and movement sequences.
- Adjusting choreography to accommodate performer abilities while maintaining artistic quality.
- Maintaining choreography documentation and rehearsal notes.
- Attending rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances as required.
- Ensuring choreography is performed safely and consistently.
Student Development
- Foster confidence through movement and performance.
- Encourage teamwork, creativity, discipline, and respect.
- Promote healthy movement practices and injury prevention.
- Support students of all skill levels in achieving personal success.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels encouraged to participate.
Program Development
- Assist in developing dance curriculum for the Academy.
- Collaborate on workshops, dance intensives, camps, and special events.
- Help expand dance programming and performance opportunities.
- Participate in community outreach and recruitment events.
- Support interdisciplinary collaboration with acting and music faculty.
Additional Responsibilities
- Prepare lesson plans and choreography in advance.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional classroom environment.
- Communicate professionally with families and staff.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
- Support Academy showcases, productions, auditions, and community performances.
- Assist with summer camps and seasonal programming.
- Represent Rodgers Creative Enterprises with professionalism and integrity.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Degree or coursework in Dance, Musical Theatre, Performing Arts, Dance Education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching dance to children and teens.
- Experience choreographing musical theatre productions.
- Knowledge of multiple dance styles, including musical theatre, jazz, ballet, and contemporary.
- Experience adapting choreography for performers with varying skill levels.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with directors, music directors, and production staff.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance and background check.
- Negative TB clearance.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Reliable transportation.
- Availability for evenings, weekends, rehearsals, and performances.

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
