Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to safely and efficiently operate excavators and related heavy equipment on commercial construction sites. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively with project management and field crews.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating excavators and heavy equipment (Required)
- Experience with commercial site development and underground utilities (Preferred)
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and related heavy equipment, including loaders, bulldozers, backhoes, and compaction equipment
- Excavate, trench, and backfill for underground utilities in accordance with project plans and specifications
- Safely operate equipment around live utilities, maintaining awareness and caution at all times
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Foremen, and crew members to ensure efficient jobsite operations
- Inspect equipment daily and perform routine maintenance and safety checks
- Load, unload, and transport jobsite materials as required
- Utilize and inspect hand tools and rigging equipment for various construction activities
- Set and place structures using proper rigging techniques
- Understand and properly implement shoring systems and trench protection methods
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Promote and enforce safety standards and OSHA compliance
- Ensure company vehicles and equipment are operated safely and utilized efficiently
- Complete reports and required documentation accurately and timely
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience operating excavators and heavy equipment with a strong focus on safety
- Working knowledge of trenching, shoring systems, and underground utility installation
- Ability to assist the crew with material handling, hoisting, and general construction tasks
- At least moderate understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and methods
- Excellent communication and customer service skills when interacting with inspectors, clients, and internal teams
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve project goals
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, equipment operation, and construction procedures
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing jobsite conditions
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening if requested
- Physically capable of meeting the demands of the position, including extended equipment operation and jobsite activity

- Hourly rate is negotiable depending on experience level, equipment proficiency, certifications (CDL, OSHA, etc.), safety record, reliability, and job performance. Competitive pay offered for highly qualified candidates.
